Windrose Ultimate Weapon Tier List & Ascension Guide
If you think Windrose is just a pirate simulator where you can mash the left-click button with a giant club and win, you are going to get slaughtered. The combat in this game is heavily Soulslike. Your entire build's viability hinges on Stamina management and the ability to execute 'Perfect Blocks'. Here is the harsh truth that noob-friendly guides won't tell you: if a melee weapon cannot Perfect Block, it is instantly garbage UNLESS its special ability is overwhelmingly broken. Do NOT waste your extremely rare Tumbaga Ingots ascending C-Tier Greatswords. You must funnel all your resources into obtaining the true S-Tier gods of the Cursed Swamps: The Rapier of Devastation and the Plague Halberd.
The Ascension Trap (Save Your Tumbaga)
Every named weapon drops at Rare quality, giving it one unique passive. You can upgrade its base damage level normally, but the real power spike requires Ascension to Epic quality at the Weaponsmith Workshop. Ascending unlocks the bolded, second Epic ability.
The Catch: Ascension costs Tumbaga Ingots. These are the rarest mid-to-late game resources. If you Ascend a B-Tier weapon early on, you will deeply regret it when you finally loot an S-Tier weapon and have no Ingots left.
Windrose Weapon Tier List
We rank weapons based on their scaling synergy, attack frames, ability to Perfect Block, and how broken their Epic effects are.
S-Tier (Game-Breaking Meta)
| Weapon Name | Type (Stat) | Why It Breaks the Game |
| Rapier Of Devastation | 1H Sword (Precision) | The Undisputed King. Extremely fast attacks. Perfect Block capable. Epic Effect: Consuming 5+ Plague Marks with a Heavy Attack instantly restores 40% of Max Health. It removes the need for healing potions. |
| Plague Halberd | 2H Halberd (Strength) | The only 2H weapon worth using. You cannot Perfect Block, but the [F] Special Attack hits in a massive AoE cleave that instantly restores 35% Max Health. It is the ultimate ship-boarding weapon. |
| Reliable Musket | Musket (Precision) | Ranged attacks cost 0 Stamina. Paired with the 'Quick Hand' talent, its Rare effect drops reload times to sub-2 seconds, and its Epic effect gives +20% Crit Damage. The highest sustained DPS in the game. |
A-Tier (Excellent Replacements)
These are the weapons you should use to farm the S-Tier weapons.
- Rapier Of A Thousand Cuts (Precision): The best early-to-mid game carry. Applies a 5x stacking Bleed DoT. The Epic effect turns that bleed into Temporal Health recovery. Only replaced by the Devastation rapier.
- Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol (Precision): The ultimate secondary weapon. Its Epic effect applies Vulnerability (+15% Damage Taken). You fire this once to apply the debuff, then swap to your Rapier for a massive nuke.
- Arboris Saber (Strength): A great 1H Plague weapon with huge frontal damage on its [F] attack, but falls short of S-Tier because it lacks the massive percentage-based self-healing of the top tier.
B-Tier & C-Tier (Niche or Flawed)
Weapons here have severe drawbacks or force you into clunky playstyles.
- Razor / Dueling Saber (Agility - B Tier): Great for Agility Crit builds, but zero self-sustain. If you miss a Perfect Block, your DPS plummets.
- Soul Eater (Strength - C Tier): Dropped by the Hands Boss. The AoE life-drain sounds amazing, but a 2-minute cooldown makes it utterly useless for general map clearing.
- Executioner (Strength - C Tier): Requires getting kills to stack Crit Chance. Completely useless against a single, high-HP Boss where you cannot build stacks.
D-Tier (The "Do Not Equip" List)
If you see these, leave them in a chest. They are a waste of inventory space.
- Smasher: A Rare 1H Mace obtained via fishing. It cannot be Ascended. Its knockback proc rate is pathetic. It is a meme weapon.
- Infantry Musket: Adds a melee bayonet attack. In a game where the Reliable Musket exists, rushing into melee range with a ranged weapon is suicidal.
- All Generic "Sturdy" Maces/Greatswords: Maces and Greatswords inherently cannot Perfect Block. Giving them "+1 Posture Point" or "-15% Stamina cost" does not fix the core issue that you will get staggered to death by Plague Thralls.
The Precision "Double-Dip" Early Strategy
If you are struggling in the first 10 hours, stop spreading your stats.
If you use a Rapier (which uniquely scales with Precision instead of Agility) paired with a Pistol (which also scales with Precision), then you can dump 100% of your offensive points into a single stat.
Farm POIs until you find the Rapier Of A Thousand Cuts and a Reliable Pistol. This setup will effortlessly carry you all the way to the Cursed Swamps.
FAQ: Weapon Mechanics
Q: Why does the Halberd rank S-Tier if you said weapons that can't Perfect Block are trash?
A: It's the singular exception to the rule. The Plague Halberd's Special Attack deals insane AoE damage and heals 35% of your max HP. It out-heals the chip damage you take from being unable to Perfect Block. No other 2-Handed weapon has this broken level of sustain.
Q: Should I level Mastery to boost my critical hits with the S-Tier weapons?
A: No. Due to harsh Diminishing Returns (DR) on stats, hard-leveling Mastery is a waste. Rely on food buffs (like Tacos) to boost Mastery, and dump your actual level-up points into Precision (for Rapiers/Muskets) or Strength (for Halberds).
Q: Can I dual-wield pistols?
A: No. Windrose strictly enforces a "One Melee, One Ranged" loadout system. However, using Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol mimics the burst damage of dual-wielding by firing two quick shots in succession.
