Windrose Ancient Fire Sanctuary Full Puzzle Walkthrough

The Ancient Fire Sanctuaries are currently the most frustrating POIs in Windrose. You are thrown into pitch-black ruins and tasked with finding heavy Firebowls to light central Braziers, all while navigating loose floorboards that drop you into pits. To make matters worse, there are actually TWO entirely different versions of this temple generated in the world: an 8-Chest variant and a 4-Chest variant. This guide separates both. Before you step inside, bring a Pickaxe and a stack of Wood. If you accidentally drop a Firebowl into an unreachable crevice or the physics engine locks the pressure plate puzzle, do not panic—simply hit ALT+F4 to force-close the game. Upon logging back in, the puzzle will completely reset.

Pre-Requisites: The Hardcore Survival Rules

Do not attempt these puzzles in the dark. The upper levels are notoriously hard to navigate.

1. The Torch Meta: Spam Standing Torches everywhere. They only cost 2 Wood each. Light up the entire room before you start carrying items.
2. The Dirt Trap: Watch your step. If you see a patch of floor that looks like loose dirt/gravel instead of solid stone, then DO NOT step on it. It will collapse, dropping you to the bottom floor.
3. Escape Routes: If you fall in, look for stone 'ladders' protruding from the walls. Alternatively, use your Pickaxe to destroy weakened pillars to create a makeshift ramp out of the pit.

Variant A: The 8-Chest Sanctuary (Complex)

This is the larger variant featuring a locked door that requires solving a vase-weight puzzle.

The 4 Firebowl Locations

1. The Thorns Room: Facing the locked door on the top floor, look to your right. Hack away the dense Thorns with your weapon to reveal a small hidden room containing the first Firebowl.
2. The Locked Door (Vase Puzzle): This Firebowl is locked behind the main door. You must place two large vases onto the pressure plates flanking the door. Pick them up using [E]. One vase is already on its plate; the second is lying on the floor right next to the empty plate.
3. The Drop-Down: Once you open the door via the pressure plates (Firebowl 2), go through it and immediately turn left through the hanging vines. Walk past the skeleton and carefully drop down the hole to the second floor. The third Firebowl is waiting there.
4. The Freebie: The fourth Firebowl is already resting on its brazier at the bottom of the temple. Just press [E] to light it.

The Final Reward: Lighting all four Braziers unlocks the central vault, granting 5x Tumbaga Ingots (Crucial for late-game Ship Gear Ascension).

The 8 Chest Locations (Loot Sweep)

Anchor Point: Stand facing the main locked door (East).

1. Chest 1: Right of the main door. Solve a secondary pressure plate puzzle in the south room.
2. Chest 2: Look Northwest for hanging vines. Break the weakened stone wall in the middle of the room.
3. Chests 3 & 4: Head Southeast outside the main ruins. Loot the chest by the upper tent, then drop down to the lower bonfire for the next.
4. Chest 5: Look up and left from the main door toward the "clock tower" structure. Loot the skeleton.
5. Chest 6: Inside the main locked door (after solving the vase puzzle), check the right corner.
6. Chest 7: Go through the gate to the right of the main room (near Firebowl 1) and loot the skeleton.
7. Chest 8: The central puzzle reward vault (5x Tumbaga Ingots).

Variant B: The 4-Chest Sanctuary (Pitfalls)

This version focuses less on pressure plates and more on vertical navigation and destroying environments.

The 4 Firebowl Locations

Anchor Point: Stand in the absolute center of the four empty braziers to avoid getting lost.

1. The Southeast Tunnel: Face Southeast and drop down the dirt hole. Follow the cave, climb the stone wall, and grab the Firebowl. To get out, use your Pickaxe to smash the damaged wall. Place the bowl on the ledge, jump up, and retrieve it.
2. The West Debris: Face West and drop down the hole. At the bottom, pull out your weapon and smash the wooden debris blocking the tunnel. The Firebowl is hidden behind it.
3. The Northeast Roof Ramp: Face Northeast. Look for a cracked, damaged stone column. If you destroy this column with a Pickaxe, then it collapses into a perfect ramp. Run up the ramp to the roof to find the bowl.
4. The Freebie: Already placed on the brazier. Just light it.

The 4 Chest Locations (Loot Sweep)

1. Chest 1: On the roof. Go up the same ramp you created for Firebowl 3 (Northeast), and use the platforming ledges to jump over to it.
2. Chest 2: Inside the West hole (where Firebowl 2 was). Loot the Old Skeleton under the smashed debris.
3. Chest 3: Outside the ruins. Head Southwest from the braziers, behind the collapsed walls.
4. Chest 4: The central puzzle reward vault (5x Tumbaga Ingots).

FAQ: Sanctuary Puzzles

Q: I placed the vases on the plates, but the door didn't open. What do I do?

A: The physics engine in Windrose is very sensitive. The vase must be perfectly centered on the pressure plate to trigger the weight threshold. Pick it up and drop it again. If the mechanism is completely bugged, use the ALT+F4 trick to reset the instance.

Q: I fell down a dirt hole and can't find a ladder to get out. Am I trapped?

A: No. Look around the walls of the pit. Many of the smooth stone pillars have hidden health bars. Hitting them with a Pickaxe or heavy weapon will shatter them, creating a ramp you can walk up. Never enter ruins without a Pickaxe.

Q: Are the 5 Tumbaga Ingots guaranteed every time?

A: Yes. The central puzzle chest in the Ancient Fire Sanctuary is a fixed drop for 5 Tumbaga Ingots. Because Tumbaga is required to ascend weapons and ship gear to Epic quality, completing these sanctuaries is a mandatory part of late-game progression.
